Labubu is taking over.
There’s a hot new frenzy among collectible toys, and it’s Labubu, a toothy monster that’s causing people to line up overnight everywhere from Bangkok to Chicago.
Created by Hong Kong-born, Netherlands-raised illustrator Kasing Lung, Labubu first appeared in The Monsters picture book series back in 2015. Pop Mart entered into an exclusive license agreement with the illustrator in 2019, and the revenue generated from the first series launch broke the sales record in the art toy category.
Here’s how Pop Mart describes the creature: “In 2015, Kasing Lung created a fairy world in three picture books inspired by Nordic mythology, and populated it with magical characters both good and evil, calling them The Monsters. Among them, the most prominent one was LABUBU, a small monster with high, pointed ears and serrated teeth. Despite a mischievous look, LABUBU is kind-hearted and always wants to help, but often accidentally achieves the opposite.”

With pop stars like Lisa and Rihanna flaunting the plushies on their social media and wearing them in their daily attire, the character has become a massively desired commodity, featured heavily in TikTok unboxings and even on the runways of Fashion Week.
The latest “Big Into Energy” blind box line features six colorful vinyl pendants, plus one ultra-rare “secret” figurine.
No one knows what’s inside the box before it’s opened, so each regular figure has odds of 1:6, with the secret figure being 1:72. You can also buy whole sets of 6 for $167, in which case there will be no repetitions.
Fans have been lining up hours before Pop Mart stores around the world opened.
They’re going for a steep $27.99 at the moment, thanks to the ongoing tariff wars.
Amazon has an official Pop Mart shop, as does TikTok. There’s also an official shop on AliExpress.
