Pop Mart is extending its reach into South Jersey with a new store planned for the Deptford Mall.
Known for its wide variety of characters in figurine and keychain form, Pop Mart keeps consumers coming back with their “blind box” formatting and limited releases, encouraging fans to collect all of the figurines available in any particular series.
Mall managers announced the anticipated new store on their Facebook page Sept. 29, giving shoppers a sneak peek at the walled-off work site bearing the Pop Mart logo, cartoon characters and “Coming Soon” in bold print.
The business skyrocketed this past summer when Labubus, the cute-but-somewhat-malicious-looking characters from artist Kasing Lung’s series “The Monsters.”
These toys soon popped up across the country, accompanying everyone from celebrities to the baristas at your local coffee shops.
But Pop Mart offers a variety of cute collectibles, including Harry Potter and Disney brands.
The Deptford Mall location is the latest in Pop Mart’s rise to regional fame.
The Cherry Hill Mall gained their own store over the summer, the first in South Jersey. The China-based toy business staked its first permanent U.S. store in Bergen County at the American Dream Mall in 2023.
The business, founded in 2010, operates 95 Robo Shops (vending-machine-style pop ups that let users buy various blind boxes) as well as 50 brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S., a representative of Pop Mart said.
A Deptford Mall representative was unavailable to provide more information on the opening.
While consumers wait for the store to open, they may take advantage of the Robo Shop available at the mall, located near Boscov’s on the lower level.
