Pop Mart, the Chinese collectibles company known for the hit Labubu plush dolls, has opened a new store at Washington Square mall.
The store had a soft opening in recent days, though no Labubus appeared in stock Monday.
A grand opening is scheduled for later this month, according to a mall spokesperson, with more details to come soon.
“There will be Labubus at the grand opening!” the spokesperson, Lisa Frisch, said in an email.
Washington Square mall managers previously said the store would open before November. Pop Mart also operates two “Robo Shop” kiosks inside the Tigard mall, managers said in a press release. (The kiosks will stay open, according to Frisch.) And since at least September, the storefront been covered with construction paneling, with a “coming soon” teaser sign.
The Labubu dolls have amassed an avid fanbase dedicated to collecting sets of the plushes. The Labubus, which frequently sell out online, are part of the company’s “The Monsters” series. The dolls went viral last year after Lisa, a member of K-pop group Blackpink, enthused about Pop Mart in interviews and to her vast social media audience.
When Pop Mart opened its first Oregon in Clackamas Town Center this spring, that mall braced for lines to form in the wee morning hours.
By those standards, the Washington Square location seemed calm Monday evening as small groups of curious customers filtered in, perhaps a sign that word hadn’t gotten out about the opening — or that the hype might be cooling.
