A craze over Labubu dolls is leaving some customers in Eastern North Carolina with counterfeits.
You may have seen the viral plush toys created by Hong Kong designer KaSing Lung on store shelves
The dolls are a part of “The Monsters” series, and their popularity has skyrocketed in the US.
Atlantic Beach Police Department Lieutenant Doug Harvey says dozens of fake dolls are popping up around town.
A visitor bought several Labubus from a souvenir store for her children, only to find out they were counterfeit.
Lieutenant Harvey says the tourist’s complaint turned into a bust on August 7th, alongside investigators from the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office and the Secretary of State.
Be on the lookout and be careful where you buy your Labubus, and the best thing is, we’re told, buy them from the brand store or from their online shop, don’t buy them from any of these souvenir stores
Lieutenant Harvey says the victim bought the dolls for $30-dollars each. The Pop Mart made dolls retail between $30-dollars to almost a thousand dollars, depending on availability.

She bought some Labubus from a local store here and they were counterfeit. I asked her what made them counterfeit and she did her research, so she was able to point out the difference of a toe nail color on this figure, the poor stitching, just how the things don’t match.
All the Labubus — along with drug paraphernalia — was taken off the shelves.
