Labubu dolls, known for their quirky charm, have gone viral in India after an Instagram video showed an “Indianised” version dressed in a saree and maangtika.
Desi Labubu doll
Labubu dolls have taken over the internet with their quirky charm. They are called creepy, cute, ugly and adorable all at once. Created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung and produced by Chinese toy giant Pop Mart, these collectable figures have become a global hit. Now, the Labubu craze has made its way to India—with a viral desi makeover.
A video shared by Instagram page @24thspoke, which sells accessories and Labubu dolls, shows what an Indian Labubu would look like. In the clip, the doll is dressed in a saree, complete with a maangtika (traditional Indian forehead jewellery), while a popular Hindi song plays in the background.
The creative twist struck a chord online. Social media users reacted with a mix of laughter and love. One user commented, “Labubupreet Kaur. Hahah.” Another said, “Pehli baar yeh cheez cute lagi hai.” The name Labubu Kaur is now being affectionately used for the Indianised version. The doll is also being called Labubu Bhabhi and Labahu.
But the fun didn’t stop there. Some netizens took the creativity even further, joking that the Indian Labubu is set to marry Tatya Vinchu — a haunted doll from a South Indian horror film. Memes, marriage jokes and hilarious edits are flooding the internet as the crossover idea goes viral.
Labubu dolls are already popular among collectors, celebrities and toy fans worldwide. Their limited-edition runs, expressive faces and weirdly lovable features have helped Pop Mart become a powerhouse in designer toys.
Wang Ning, Pop Mart’s 38-year-old founder and CEO, has seen skyrocketing success. According to Forbes (April 2025), his real-time net worth is $18.7 billion — driven largely by the popularity of Labubu.
