Naomi Osaka isn’t new to pushing the envelope when it comes to fashion on the court. On Tuesday night, the four-time Grand Slam champion turned heads as she stepped inside the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York in an all-red outfit for her match against Greet Minnen at the 2025 US Open. Naomi arrived in an embellished cropped red jacket that glittered under the lights. She paired it with a matching bubble-hem skirt and her custom red Nike GP Challenge 1 sneakers. Completing the look, she made her entrance wearing sparkly headphones.
Her hairstyle had us obsessed. Naomi wore rose accessories in her hair that shimmered under the lights, tying the whole look together.
The season’s hottest accessory, Labubu, also made an appearance at the US Open. Since the tennis star was in the mood for bling, even her custom Labubu was covered in embellishments as it hung from her bag. After her win, she held up the glitzy plushie, and told the crowd, “This is my Labubu. She’s named Billie Jean Bling. Not Billie Jean King.”
The look had been in the works for a long time. After her win, she told reporters, “I designed this outfit a while ago. I’ll probably post a video about it later, but we tried it on, honestly, last year. It was really elaborate, because the crystals are really hard to do on a performance outfit,” as reported by The Mirror US.
She added, “I just thought it would be really fun to do a New York under the lights. I’m glad that my first match was a night match, because this outfit was really fun to play in. This is my night outfit, so hopefully I’ll wear my day outfit next time. But yeah, it definitely was really elaborate.”
At last year’s US Open, Naomi leaned into Lolita fashion, a Japanese subculture style that has spread far beyond Japan. In 2025, her looks have centred around florals. At the French Open, she wore a cherry blossom motif inspired by Japan’s sakura season, while at the Australian Open she sported a sunflower-inspired golden yellow kit.
At Roland-Garros, she explained the idea behind the theme. “The shoes are sakura-themed, which is, I guess, just in time for spring, which is sakura season… It follows the flower story that we have throughout the year,” according to Tennis.com.
